Happy Independence Days for Canada (July 1) and USA (July 4) OK, so it’s Dominion Day for Canada and it marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada was then divided into Ontario and Quebec) on 1 July 1867. The British Parliament still kept limited rights of political control over the new country, finally ending in 1982. You mean the British government kinda ruled when I was born in Quebec? Who knew? Yup, I am pursuing dual citizenship by reclaiming my Canadian one, which is now in the works. Hope they send me my replacement birth certificate soon so I get going on this! Oh Canada!Hey – you might be Canadian! |
